Cooking spooky biscuits!

As many of you know I can’t stand anything to do with cooking, baking, boiling or frying; not to mention the fact that washing up is as dull as dishwater.

However, I have an extremely sweet tooth and spend a lot of time stuffing my face with chocolate, cake and biscuits. Consequently, if anyone wants to try out this recipe for spooky biscuits, it would be my pleasure to eat them for you.

Bonfire Night! Gunpowder, Treason and Plot

The 5th of November is Bonfire Night or  Guy Fawkes Night.

Guy Fawkes was a catholic who led a plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament and bring down England’s protestant monarchy. He was caught, imprisoned in the Tower of London, and tortured for four days under personal orders from King James I.

Interestingly over time, Guy Fawkes has become a symbol of equality and social justice.  In fact, in recent history, a lot of people have worn masks of him during social, economic or political protests.

The big cheese

The big cheese is a colloquial expression used to describe a very important person; for example, the Chief Executive, the Head Teacher, the Prime Minister, or the most important manager or director of a company.  Indeed, David Cameron is the big cheese of the UK as a result of the recent British general elections.

So, what’s your big cheese like? Is he or she a cold fish, or, are they friendly and approachable? Come on spill the beans.

To be cheesed off

I am so cheesed off!!

To be cheesed off is an expression which means a person feels cross, angry, upset or annoyed.  For example: The goldfish is cheesed off because living in a bowl is superbly dull. I‘m cheesed off  because the recovery of my broken wrist is so SLOW! Well, truth be told, my emotions might be connected to the fact that I’m really impatient.  What do you think?

Are you cheesed off with work?  Or perhaps, your partner is really getting on your nerves!

To be crazy about someone or doing something

crazy about somethingTo be crazy about someone or doing something is an expression which means to be very, very, very  keen on something or someone, or to be fond of something or someone. We also use the expression to be nuts about doing something.

For example, some people are crazy about cooking, ( I know, how is that possible?!)  and others  are nuts about climbing big rocks. However,  at the moment, for me, I’m crazy about playing squash even though every week I lose and get my ass kicked. In addition, I’m crazy about my thermal underwear because I’m soooooooooooooooooooo cold!

Are you a philospher or a rock star?

descartesAccorElvisding to the well-known philosopher Descartes we can prove our existence because we THINK;  remember his theory: ‘I think, therefore I am’.

However, according to the King of rock and roll Elvis Presley we can prove our existence because we DO; remember the lyrics: ‘ a little less conversation, a little more action’. Well, on balance, I believe thinking is overrated and that life is more fun if you are a doer and not a thinker.

How about you?  Are you an armchair philospher, or are you moving and shaking with the rock stars?

X ray glassesTechnological advancements can be amazing; seriously how difficult would modern life be without access to the internet?! And, for all those fitness fanatics out there, what would you life be like without the new fitness and activity trackers? Not to mention the fact that we now have 3D printing, Smart Phones, and wearing technology like Smart Watches and those X Ray glasses that you wear so you can see what people look like without their clothes on.

OK, yes, I made the last one up but you have to concede that some technological inventions are obviously just BONKERS and a complete waste of money; in fact many of the most stupid ones cost an arm and leg.
