England are through to the semi-finals

It wasn´t a dream, it wasn´t a hallucination: the England football club are through to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals.  It´s a huge effort, it´s an enormous achievement, and considering that last time this happened was in 1990, I have every right to feel dizzy with excitement and hope for a stunning semi-final victory.

I watched the match with a group of young English lads who were fresh-faced, just out of high-school, and innocent of the years of heartache that the majority of English football fans have experienced over the last three decades.  They truly believed that England could do it.  I, on the other hand, willed myself to quash the stomach-wrenching feeling that England would, once again, under-perform.

So, the fear of defeat is broken, and I thank every single one of those lads who helped me to ride the exhilarating wave of football emotion. Come on England!

Janette at Inglès Màlaga says happy festive holidays

Janette would like to wish all her clients and the larger international Inglés Málaga community a very fun and jolly festive season.

It has been a challenging, fun and rewarding 2017. We have improved our English language skills to achieve a lot of personal and professional objectives, including, passing official exams, getting better-paid jobs, setting up businesses, and emigrating abroad.  In addition, the Inglés Málaga community has got engaged, got married and had children.  And, last but not least, our language skills have enabled us to help lost tourists, translate for patients in hospital, and break down geographic, religious, cultural and political barriers. Inglés Málaga clients are not average, they are exceptional.

On a personal note, I have learnt a lot more than I have taught, and without a shadow of a doubt my life is infinitely richer as a result of my clients.  Thank you, it is an honour working with you all!

What it’s like to be a parent in a war zone?

Aala El-Khanim humanitarian psychologist, explores the needs of families affected by war and displacement and the mental health of children who have experienced armed conflict.

How do parents protect their children and help them feel secure again when their homes are ripped apart by war? In this warm-hearted talk, psychologist Aala El-Khani shares her work supporting — and learning from — refugee families affected by the civil war in Syria. She asks: How can we help these loving parents give their kids the warm, secure parenting they most need?

Listen to Aala El-Khanim´s ideas on this topic.

Yoda is intelligent and wise, but his grammar is mental!

If you watch the Star Wars films, without a shadow of a doubt, you will learn a lot about life, power, greed and the delicious seduction of the dark side, (seriously, who doesn´t want to be Darth Vader?!)

On the other hand, if you copy Yoda´s speech patterns, and his use of grammar and word order, you are definitely going to confuse the hell out of native English speakers.  So Yoda, please, get back to basics and have a look at how to ask  a question.

Chill-out or cultural getaway?

Are you suffering from the blues? Do you fancy a getaway to a chilled-out, unspoilt tropical island?  Or, are you more culture vulture than beach bum?

Adventure holiday
Having a ball, having a blast!

I personally have mixed feelings about this.  On the one hand, I´m really keen on sunbathing at the beach with a mojito in one hand and a trashy novel in the other hand.  However, on the other hand, I´m nuts about learning about the history, traditions and culture of a new city.  In fact, if I had more time and money, I would definitely take more city breaks.  However, truth be told adventure holidays are my real cup of tea.  I love danger, risk and a challenge.  Indeed, the last time I went scuba diving I was scared stiff but I loved every second.  Bring on the adventure, let the good times roll!

Of course, it’s possible that your idea of having fun is completely different to mine.  So, if you could go on any type of holiday, what would it be?

What should I do when it´s boiling hot?

The summer is here, and OMG, it´s boiling hot. It´s definitely the season to hang up your trainers, throw on your bikini, dust off your cool box and spend as much time as possible at the beach.

Ok, if you aren´t a beach bum, don´t worry, you can take advantage of the outdoor summer cinema festival.
