Backpacking is a form of low-cost, independent international travel. It includes the use of a backpack that is easily carried for long distances or long periods of time; the use of public transport; staying in inexpensive lodging such as youth hostels; and finally, backpacking is usually longer than a mainstream two week holiday. Backpackers are usually interested in meeting locals as well as seeing the sights.
When I was younger I was a very keen backpacker and although myself and my sister did go backpacking a few years ago, without a shadow of a doubt, when my sister pampered me by booking us into some 5 star hotels, I have to admit that I was like a kid in a sweet shop running around touching and licking everything. I was on cloud 9, and, of course, I did attempt to steal the bathrobes, the slippers, the toiletries, the bedside lamp, the flat screen TV, the rechargers, the sexy doormen but, unfortunately, I was not successful!
